Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before ordering. If you have a question that isn't answered here, email us at hello@blackpotioncoffee.com — we reply within one business day.

Product

We roast to order. Your bag is roasted within 2–3 days of your order being placed, then shipped immediately. By the time it reaches you, it's typically 7–14 days post-roast — well within peak freshness for a sealed bag. Every bag has a roast date printed on it.

Both. Each product has a grind option at checkout: Whole Bean, Espresso, Filter (V60 / Drip), French Press, or Moka Pot. We recommend whole bean if you have a grinder — the coffee stays fresher much longer.

Each region of Indonesia produces a distinctly different cup. Sumatran wet-hulled coffees (like our Aceh Gayo) are heavy, low-acid, and earthy. Sulawesi washed coffees (Toraja) are denser and more structured. Balinese (Kintamani) are bright and citrusy. We have a full guide on our Journal: read "The Indonesia You Don't Know."

An opened bag of whole bean coffee, stored in a cool dark place with the bag squeezed and clipped, holds its character for about 3–4 weeks. Ground coffee fades faster — about 1–2 weeks. After that, the coffee is still drinkable but the aromatic notes flatten.

Shipping

We ship from Indonesia to over 30 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the EU member states, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and most of Southeast Asia. If your country isn't at checkout, email us — we may be able to arrange it.

Tracked delivery times after dispatch: UAE & GCC: 7–10 business days. European Union: 10–14 business days. United Kingdom: 10–14 business days. Rest of world: 10–18 business days. Orders dispatch within 2–3 business days of being placed.

Standard tracked shipping: $15 to UAE & GCC (free over $80). $18 to EU and UK (free over $100). $25 to rest of world (free over $150). Exact shipping calculates at checkout based on your address and weight.

For EU and UK customers, local VAT and customs may apply on delivery (typically 5–20% depending on the country). UAE imports under AED 1,000 are generally exempt. We declare all shipments accurately as roasted coffee. We do not collect VAT at checkout — it is collected by your local carrier on delivery.

International shipments occasionally clear customs slowly, especially in Europe during peak shipping seasons. If your order hasn't arrived within the estimated window plus 5 business days, email us — we'll investigate and, if needed, file a claim with the carrier.

Orders & Returns

We replace damaged or lost orders at no cost. Email us with your order number (and a photo if applicable) within 14 days of delivery, and we'll send a replacement on our next dispatch.

Because coffee is a perishable food product, we can't accept physical returns for taste reasons. However, if you're genuinely unhappy with your first order, email us — we'll work with you to find a coffee that suits you better, often at no additional cost.

Because we roast to order, we can usually modify an order within 12 hours of it being placed — before roasting begins. After that, the coffee is already in production. Email us as soon as possible at hello@blackpotioncoffee.com.
